Champion A Structure

The 336 acres of Richfield Heritage Preserve are replete with pristine natural resources and numerous structures, remnants of its varied history as the James Kirby estate, Mason Oviatt residence, Clarence Neal estates and apple orchards, and Crowell Hilaka Girl Scout camp.

Many of the buildings erected during these eras remain within the park boundaries. While some have fallen into disrepair and been removed for safety reasons, others remain, but without a designated use. With so many buildings and a limited budget, RJRD cannot rehabilitate and/or manage all the structures on the property in a fiscally responsible manner.

To address this issue, as part of the 2023 strategic planning process, the Champion Program was created.
It allows the community at large to present a plan to the RJRD for assuming the cost of renovation and a plan for use that is consistent with the park’s initiatives. Interested parties must complete a Letter of Intent (LOI) which is presented to the RJRD board. Following discussion and approval by the board, the Champion may then continue with the process and complete
a Champion application.
