Welcome to the February issue of the RHP eNewsletter. This month is traditionally known for affections of the heart. As I continue my daily ritual of exploring the park, so too, does my affection grow for Richfield Heritage Preserve. Every morning as I arrive at the park I am reminded of the immense potential of this incredible 336-acre property. I make time to go out and hike, greet and meet park visitors, and truly explore. I always see something I haven’t noticed before – a bird, the diversity in the waterways and terrain, the variety of plant life, and the incredible amount of trees throughout the preserve that provide a home to so many creatures. Just last week, I was privileged to observe a juvenile Bald Eagle soaring over the preserve.
This is the second of our eNewsletters and we focus on enjoying the natural beauty of our park, how many people use it as a place to study, and what we are learning every day thanks to all the professionals and experts who are involved behind the scenes. I hope you enjoy the report by Dr. Andrew Merwin and Dr. Carrie Davis-Todd about what their Baldwin Wallace University students learned last year at RHP. It’s gratifying to know that our park has been the go-to location for them, and other BWU professors and their students. I’m also happy to announce we filmed the first video in an upcoming series we are calling “Conversations from The Lodge”. I will be interviewing people who have invested time evaluating, improving and preserving this wonderful property. My first conversation is with Adam Beichler of The Wilderness Center. Once you read the story I hope you are compelled to watch the video on our RHP YouTube Channel once it is aired. We will keep you posted!
And, what fun would our eNewsletter be if there wasn’t a way to interact with us? This month we are continuing to offer our hashtag challenges on social media. If you don’t know what those are just read about it in this issue. PLUS, we are offering our first park interest survey to gauge what you enjoy most at RHP and how we can better engage with you and consider your suggestions. These are just some of the ways we are trying to build a stronger relationship with you and our park guests. There are more ideas planned in the coming months, so stay tuned!
We hope you not only enjoy what you read in this issue of our RHP eNewsletter, but we hope you will come and visit (more often), and take time out to let your affection for Richfield Heritage Preserve continue to grow. As always, please share what you have experienced by posting with the hashtags #DiscoverYourOutdoorExperienceAtRHP and #RHPSnowscapes. I look forward to seeing you on the trails!
